I finally learned about microcontrollers and it highly influenced my decision on user interface. There is no single knob, maybe except volume, modulation and data entry sliders. All programming is available through four(!) buttons, data-entry slider and 40 characters LCD. It allows me to store 128 programs, and what is more useful - PC connection for up/downloading programs and wavetables.
